Custom Print Without Macro? 7 Months, 4 Weeks ago Karma: 0
My predecessor was using Ver 5 and he implemented some custom print functions that create html files on the client and then run them. The purpose was to give the user the ability to get a nice printout because the print function just displays the current screen which is not really what we want.

I'm using ver 6 and I need to create a print for a new function. Should I use the same approach or is there a better way to go at this? One concern is that once we convert to mid-tier that running commands on the client might not work. Another concern is that I want to do things the "right way" but I don't have the experience to know what that is. Thanks for any advice!

If your organization uses Crystal Enterprise or Business Objects, I would design the reports using those tools and then you can view the same reports on the web and in the User Tool. There are other solutions available, of course. If the above doesn't work for you, come on back and we'll discuss the rest.

Good luck,

Matt R.
